Excellent for the Kindle; Good for other things, too,
I’ve seen LED booklights before, but avoided them because they weren’t that bright or took odd, expensive batteries. The Mighty Bright is mighty good. It takes simple AAA batteries (2) and has a sturdy clip. The battery pack sits on the back of the clip so it doesn’t “bulge” inside the cover of the book. The “neck” of the light is slim and flexible. It stays in place no matter what position you put it in.
In spite of what some have said, the light is very bright and usable even on the low setting. This light is also good for jobs around the house where you need a light in a dark place while you use your hands for tools. It costs a bit more than other booklights I’ve seen, but like the Kindle, it’s worth it.
Edit: I have posted a couple of pictures of the light attached to the Kindle in the Kindle main page photo gallery.

|The perfect accessory for Amazon Kindle owners,
One of the downsides, such as it is, about the Kindle: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device and any other device using the revolutionary eInk display is that, just like a paper page, you need external light to read it. By far I think that a non-lighted display is a great thing as it seems far less tiring to my eyes, but it also means that one must have decent lighting in order to read the screen comfortably. This is even more important since, for some, the contrast of black text on a gray background is hard to get used to.
That’s where having an accessory like the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Light becomes really important. The light is by far the best reading light I personally have seen, with it’s long flexible neck which makes finding just the right position a breeze. The wide mouth clip is strong but not overly tight, making it easy enough for me with my limited strength and manual dexterity able to open it, but also leaving more than strong enough to attach firmly to any surface. In my case, I place my Kindle in the Kindle Reader Stand, so I attach the Mighty Bright to the back of the stand.
I love that the lights are LED. A previous reading light I’ve owned had a small traditional light, and it got hot very quickly. Being disabled and therefore normally using the light on a bed, trying to stand it next to my book (as it had no clip on mechanism) always left me worried about it falling over and burning me, or my inadvertently touching the exposed bulb. Not a problem with the Mighty Bright LEDs, which always stay cool to the touch. Also the ability to use either one or both of the twin LEDs is very useful, as one can (presumably) cut down on battery drainage when the brighter setting is unnecessary.
As for glare on the Kindle screen, a problem other reviewers have mentioned, it is a minor annoyance, but I found the simplest solution is to position the light so that it extends around or just below the Kindle’s upper corners to rest off to the side of the screen, with the light itself angled more directly toward the Kindle itself, or perhaps aimed toward a point just to the side of the screen. That seems to keep enough light on the screen to read while keeping the reflection of the bulb off the screen itself. But I am lying down on my bed with the Kindle in its stand beside me more on eye level. Your experiences may vary as you will likely be viewing from a different position.
I can’t speak to battery life as of yet as this is an early, first impressions review, after having owned and used the light for a few hours as I write this. But the Mighty Bright looks and feels solid and well made, and with that and its usefulness to me in helping me to further enjoy my Kindle experience, I’d say it’s well worth the somewhat high price of $17.99.
Even if this isn’t a product you will use every day, for anyone who wants to have the full range of “must have” accessories, you should put the Mighty Bright at the top of your list.

|Awesome light(weight) Light for Kindle3!,
The first thing I noticed about this light was how little it added to the weight of the Kindle.
!! I love the lightness !!
The size and placement are unobtrusive and I actually prefer holding the Kindle with the light. I can rest my thumb on the track without accidentally turning the page(s). When I do want to turn the page, the left side page turns are a bit awkward, but not impossible to navigate.
At first the ‘swing arm’ was a bit stiff and I was afraid to push it too far, or too hard. After several uses I became more adept at positioning it, and it seemed a bit more flexible. After a few days, I can get it right where I want it rather quickly. I really like that I can put it above the page, or mid point, or low at the bottom of the page. The light folds back into its home slot easily.
The light coverage of the Simple Light is superb! In total darkness, dim light, and less than ideal lighting. Even in total darkness, the entire page is lit evenly – no light and dark spots. I found I liked using it as supplemental light even in conditions that I would consider well lit because it improved the contrast on the page and reading was easier on the eyes. There is no comparison to 2 previous clip on book lights that were awkward, had poor illumination, and were very hard to keep focused on the page.
This is a powerful little light, I could shine it around a dark room like a flashlight and see the opposite side of the room. Like having an emergency flashlight built into your Kindle! It helped me find the candles during a power outage, and it was very nice to be able to read, instead of just watching the candles flicker. Ever try to read by candlelight?
Even though I use the light about 2 – 3 hours per day (and even more the day the power was out) I have not noticed any difference in battery loss.
It is a great light with excellent coverage, small in size, doesn’t require extra batteries, doesn’t drain the Kindle battery, is really really light compared to the leather Kindle Cover with built in light, has better light coverage than previous also, and is a great value.

|The only non-Amazon Kindle light that needs no batteries.,
I love reading my Kindle ‘naked’ (without any covers or sleeves), and I’d been searching high and low for a light that didn’t require batteries like the one in the Kindle Lighted covers by Amazon. For the times I wasn’t using the Kindle, I wanted a flip-top case only.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t spend $60 for a non-battery light that only worked in a cover, much less the Amazon lighted cover that only opens like a book and not a legal pad like I wanted.
This light fits the bill. It works great in a dim or dark room. I don’t need additional brightness levels, but they would be appreciated still. Other reviewers have described it in better detail, so I’ll just emphasize that this is the only alternative light for the Kindle that doesn’t require batteries besides Amazon’s lighted cover one, and it’s so light it’s perfect for those who read ‘naked’.
I took off one star for: the incredibly stiff stem – it takes several seconds for me to get it at the right position, almost feels like it will break but it won’t (hopefully); the price, which I feel would be perfect at the $15 mark, to better compete against offerings from Verso, M-Edge, and Mighty Bright; and because it cannot fit in as many cases as other compact lights.

|Perfect Light for Kindle3!!!,
This is a really great light for Kindle! It’s very lightweight, adding practically no weight to the already light Kindle. It’s easy to install and remove – very simple to use. It’s wonderful having it run off of my Kindle’s battery life instead of actual batteries. When traveling with my Kindle, it’s nice to not have to worry about bringing batteries along with in case the light runs out. You just need the Kindle charger like normal. I didn’t notice any significant battery life being used up, I use the light every night for a few hours reading before bed and I didn’t have to charge my Kindle at all, and that was with a few weeks of use.
My worry with other lights that require batteries has always been if I will get notice when the light is about to go out and I can no longer read that night if I didn’t have extra batteries. With this light, you will never have to worry about that since it’s running off of the Kindle battery – the light will never die on you, there will be the warning to charge the Kindle like normal.
It was very convenient for the light to turn on and off in correspondence with the Kindle turning on/off and becoming idle from lack of use. Never have to worry about using up battery life if you suddenly have to stop reading without a chance to turn everything off. There’s also the manual switch to turn the light on and off when you don’t need it.
The lighting surface was perfect to light up the Kindle reading area, not too much and not too little. Easy to maneuver to get it to that perfect spot that I personally like when reading at night.
Overall, this is a fantastic light – no complaints here. I continue to use it every single night and couldn’t ask for more. I would highly recommend this product to anyone that wants a light for their Kindle!
